About BABISA

The idea for a South African multi-blogging platform began as early as 1999. At that time, affiliate marketing was almost non-existent in South Africa, with very few opportunities available for local marketers and website owners.

Without any coding experience, turning this idea into reality was a daunting challenge. The only option was to teach myself how to design websites, learning through experimentation and persistence while the internet was still developing in South Africa.

The Early Days of Affiliate Marketing

To understand the vision behind BABISA, it’s important to look at the history of affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing as we know it today began in 1989, when William J. Tobin of PC Flowers & Gifts implemented what is widely recognized as the first online affiliate program.

Later, in 1996, Amazon launched the Amazon Associates program, establishing the mainstream model of paying websites commissions for referrals. This model eventually became the foundation of modern affiliate marketing.

The Blogging Revolution

In 2003, blogging became significantly easier with the creation of WordPress by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little.

Although blogging technology had improved, South African creators still faced major challenges:

  • Most affiliate programs were only available in overseas markets

  • Access to marketing tools and resources was limited or expensive

  • Many premium plugins, templates, and tools were priced in US dollars

This made it difficult for South African bloggers to fully participate in the growing digital economy.

The Idea Returns

In 2019, the idea resurfaced again.

During the COVID‑19 Pandemic, the concept of reinventing a South African multi-blogging community began taking shape. However, the same challenges still existed—limited access to affordable resources, WordPress templates, and essential tools for building profitable online platforms.

A Lifetime in Marketing

My journey in marketing and sales began in 1986 with my very first job.

I later completed my first marketing diploma in 1996, building a strong foundation in traditional marketing principles.

Interestingly, while the tools and platforms have evolved dramatically, the core principles of marketing have remained the same:

  • Understanding customer needs

  • Delivering real value

  • Building long-term relationships

Today, digital tools, social media, and data analytics have transformed how businesses reach customers. However, the fundamental marketing principles developed decades ago still drive successful business growth.

The Reality of Online Income

With the rise of AI and content marketing, the internet has become one of the most powerful platforms for selling products and services.

Unfortunately, this has also created an environment flooded with:

  • Get-rich-quick schemes

  • “Earn money online instantly” promises

  • “Free” business opportunities

The truth is simple:

Nothing is truly free — someone always pays for it.

BABISA was built to provide a real platform for real creators, focused on long-term value instead of hype.
